Hope you got your fill of game industry excitement from E3, because we're currently in that no-man's-land we're calling the horse latitudes. Industry happenings are at a nadir, but we have plenty to chat about, still. I've got a couple of review haiku and some fashionably late inFamous impressions, and not to be outdone, Lonesteban tells us about his first week at Grasshopper Manufacture and the decade-old Deus Ex! Groundwork is also laid for a future installment of his "blow off corner," as well. Don't miss it!

Congrats LonEsteban!
I recently passed Force unleashed, infamous & prototype, currently working on Dead Space, and you know what? Easy mode f'n rules, I dont need to put up with all that jank. Also inFamous>Prototype.
Looking forward to the new podcast Lonesteban.
Thanks, Volt! And, yeah, Sal, I cheered when I read that. Gotta love making less than average in an industry when your rent is so high! Easy mode is for kids, man. And I can't wait to get blown off by my newest target!
Surely you're making average, now! Enjoy it while it lasts, though. As soon as you start shacking up with that chick from work she's going to quit her job and you're going to have two mouths to feed, and more on the way! Then you'll have no choice but to play easy mode, because she'll be heckling you ever five minutes and the kids will be crawling behind the TV stand and chewing on the wires and shorting out the whole setup. It has been foretold.
Speaking of which, did you guys ever read CAG dv8mad's japan/dating/horror-story? http://bit.ly/cEHV0N
Wow, that is some fucked up shit.
I'm getting married next year but I really believe she's the second type, not the leech type! Anyway, we've been together 3 years now so it hasn't been quite so whirlwind.
I imagine the only reason that London isn't the most expensive city is because the pound has taken a hammering over the last year or so. I remember going there in '04 and having to pay 10 pounds just to get something to eat (nearly $30 Australian at the time, less than 20 now).
I've found living in Osaka to be pretty good compared to Melbourne. I have a nicer apartment for slightly less rent. A lot of groceries are cheaper than in Australia. Alcohol of course is way cheaper. I don't smoke, but a lot of Australians I've met here have taken up the habit again just because cigarettes are a quarter the price. And the trains are cheaper too.
That guy's story is pretty messed up, for sure. Be careful out there, bros.
Honestly, that dude is a fool. He wasn't so much suckered as just completely desperate. Though, I have heard tons of horror stories from guys who get married here that the wife becomes a different person after you get hitched and then a raving psycho after kids are born. I think a big test is to see how that person is around your friends and family (which necessitates a trip home, I guess) and to see their own relationship with their family. I've only been close to marriage once in Japan, and held my ground because I wanna be DAMN sure about who I end up with. It didn't work out, but my life took a much better path than it would have had we gotten married. And I don't really want kids, so no easy mode for me.
Don't want kids? Sounds like you need to hook up with the ex-wife of dv8mad who can't even look after a dog :-). Actually, if I'd married my first GF here (we were together for almost a year) I can imagine my life would have taken a somewhat miserable turn, but I don't think she was a bad person. Just rather incompatible.
Btw, the latest drama on the internet this week seems to be the outing of Cheapy on the latest Cagcast as a douchebag. Now, being douchey has always been his shtick, at least as far as I can tell from the podcasts I've listened too. However, a lot of CAG seem to think he's gone too far this time:

Lonesteban, I was thinking as a friend of the man and host of a competing podcast, you might have some amusing comment or insight on the situation ;-).
I haven't read that thread yet, but just the sense I got from listening to the latest CAGcast was that Wombat is perhaps a little too sensitive. And taking food from someone else's plate is just asking to get smacked down. Perhaps it was a little insensitive of Cheapy to reiterate how they don't know each other that well, but I don't think that makes him a douche. He's a super nice and generous guy in person, and just from listening to their show for a couple of years it's obvious he doesn't hate Wombat or anything.
Yeah I wondered. Obviously I've never met the guy and I think most people are at least somewhat different in real life compared to their online personas.
Esteban will be able to comment better, I've only met Cheapy a couple of times, once at PAX 08, and again last November when I was in Tokyo for a couple of days. Este and I went out to dinner/karaoke with him and Mrs. Cheapy. Great guy.
I'm very lucky to call Cheapy a friend and I can say without a doubt he is NOT a douchebag at all. I haven't ever met someone so successful who is more generous as a person. He makes quips just like we all do (you guys know how much I rag on Dale and we are best buds) but it's just joking around. I think Wombat overreacted and so are the CAGs.
Thanks Lonesteban. I can well imagine you would have a different perspective as most since, as you say, you're lucky to know him in person. At someone who hasn't met him, but known him through 50 or so cagcasts, listening on and off, he did come across as a complete asshole in that most recent episode. With most of the cag members being in the same position as myself, I can understand why general opinion has gone the way it as.
I hope he manages to restore his image. Regardless, I doubt it will be a big deal in the long term.
Wow, when I listened to that episode of the CAG, I did not feel that Cheapy was being mean at all. I thought he was just making a point that was meant to be funny but not to be taken completely seriously. In my opinion, Wombat is far too sensitive. Maybe I'm a robot but I could not even tell Wombat was seriously offended during that podcast. I mean, the guy always sounds to me like he has a sarcastic smile on his face when he talks.
Then I heard this weeks episode and I was shocked that there was a formal apology by Cheapy for what I thought was just podcast banter. Oh well, I love their podcast and Wombat is certainly a part of the draw for me so I'm glad they worked it out.
Anyway, I was listening to another podcast today and heard about the Splatterhouse E3 trailer. When I went to check it out, I got all excited because it had a very death metal-ish sounding track to it. I wasn't really looking forward to this title but now I am if the music will be so brutal. I have always felt that videogames and deathmetal would make a perfect marriage in the right setting. I'm keeping my eye on this title.
Maybe I'm just more sensitive to that kind of thing but I could definitely notice it. Anyway, I thought it was amusing to see that the latest CAGCast feedback thread was 95% people piling into Wombat (as opposed to 95% piling into Cheapy the previous week). I couldn't be bothered extrapolating the user ids to see if any were outing themselves as hypocrites but it makes me glad to not be a part of that community :-).
